There’s a growing recognition that an important driver of forced labor is the payment of recruitment fees and other related costs incurred by workers to obtain work. In many instances, workers may have to borrow money to pay these recruitment fees, taking on debts that leave them vulnerable to exploitation and unable to leave their jobs until the debt is repaid.
In March 2015, the RBA and its memberships pass a change to the RBA code of conduct that strengthen the prohibition of forced labor requirements, introducing requirements on zero recruitment fees, but also other worker protection elements. Along with the strengthening of the RBA Code of Conduct, the RBA Board of Directors approved a Definition of Fees policy that helps the RBA to implement the requirements that no workers shall be required to pay fees for their employment.
We realize the challenges that this presents to employment agencies.
This event is organized specifically for (invited) recruitment agencies, recognizing that recruitment agencies are an important stakeholder in the efforts to drive the transformation of recruitment markets and reduce the risk of forced labor in global supply chains.
The high-level roundtable discussion will focus on the future of the recruitment industry regarding zero fees including a review and discussion regarding the role of RBA in this space. It is an informal roundtable with interactive discussions on the future of the recruitment industry and challenges in this space in general as well as within RBA’s context.
This event will be conducted in English. Regret that no interpretation services will be available.
Seats are limited to a maximum of 2 representatives per invited recruitment agency.
